About IPBC Asia

IPBC Asia was a huge success again this year. Held over three days from October 29 to 31 2017 the programme commenced on the Sunday evening with an unmissable welcome reception overlooking the Imperial Palace moat at the stunning Wadakura Fountain Park Restaurant. This was followed by two full days of high-level discussion sessions on Monday and Tuesday. The event’s key networking event, the Asia IP Elite Gala Dinner, was held on the Monday evening during which the 2017 winning companies, teams, deals and individuals were announced.

IPBC Asia is unique event in that, unlike other general legal events, it focuses on how IP owners can strategically use intellectual property to secure greater operational flexibility, drive revenues, enhance bottom-line returns, increase shareholder value and provide leverage in the financial markets.

Our faculty of speakers comprises individuals in charge of intellectual property at some of the region’s most forward-thinking companies, as well as other senior players in the global IP value creation community. Their unique insights and experiences provide delegates with a thorough understanding of latest issues and strategic thinking, as well as the many challenges that IP owners must address both now and in the future.

Delegate profile

IPBC Asia 2017 attracted a sell-out crowd of over 500 attendees focused on two key groups: chief IP officers, heads of intellectual property and their equivalents at major enterprises; and leading IP investors, aggregators, intermediaries and international regulators.

As has become standard IPBC policy, we operate a sector quota system in order to guarantee a variety of outlooks and experiences among delegates with quotas for the following:

  • Private practice lawyers
  • Patent and trademark attorneys
  • Other service providers

Once we hit a quota limit, we are unable to offer a place at IPBC Asia to those from the relevant sector looking to register for the event. This ensures the optimal overall delegate profile for the event.

Background to IPBC

Since it was launched in Amsterdam in 2008, IPBC has become established as the world’s principal forum for senior thought leaders who specialise in the business of intellectual property, giving them a place to come together and discuss cutting-edge issues around IP value creation. With intellectual property continuing to move further up the corporate, investment and policy agendas, this focus is more relevant than ever before.

Previous IPBC Global events in Amsterdam (2008 and 2014), Chicago (2009), Munich (2010), San Francisco (2011 and 2015), Cascais (2012), Boston (2013), Barcelona (2016) and Ottawa (2017), as well as IPBC China in Beijing (2012, 2015 and 2017), IPBC Asia in Singapore (2013), Tokyo (2015 and 2017), Shanghai (2014 and 2016) and IPBC Japan in Tokyo (2014 and 2016), IPBC Korea in (2016 and 2017), IPBC Taiwan in Taipei (2016), IPBC India (2017) and IPBC Southeast Asia (2017) have clearly demonstrated that the event is unique in the IP calendar.

The opportunities that the IPBC format affords for the exchange of views and experiences – both in formal sessions and during breakfast, lunch and networking breaks – are unparalleled, and are why IPBC events attract such high-level attendees and speakers.

People attend IPBC events because they are unique in four important ways:

  • They focus solely on intellectual property as a business asset and how best it can be managed to extract maximum value.
  • IAM is exceptionally placed to assemble an outstanding set of speakers and delegates – from both domestic and international markets – who bring experience, knowledge and insight to the issues that truly matter to senior IP decision makers.
  • Limited delegate numbers, strictly enforced occupation quotas and carefully designed sessions mean that the events uniquely combine world-class IP business expertise with outstanding networking opportunities in an intimate and informal atmosphere.
  • The IPBC format works because it brings together the most senior representatives from across the IP industry not just to discuss IP business, but also to do deals

The Host

IAM is universally acknowledged as the world’s leading IP business information provider. It was launched in July 2003 to address the ways in which businesses and other entities can maximise the value of their intellectual property and other intangibles, and to examine the strategies that they can employ to do this. IAM is unique because it treats intellectual property as a business asset and tool, rather than simply as a legal right. With this unequalled appeal to the boardroom, IAM has firmly established itself as the only IP publication that many senior corporate executives read regularly.
