Elza Helena Andrade Barbosa Durham is IP Counsel at Ache, where she has assisted with IP protection and risk assessment in the sale of new products for more than 5 years. Ms. Durham has more than 12 years in IP and her academic experience is multidisciplinary: she has a bachelor’s in biomedicine; a master’s in biophysics (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro); a doctorate in science (bioinformatics; University of Sao Paulo); and an MBA in Business Management (FGV). She has been registered as an Industrial Property Agent with the National Institute of Industrial Property since 2011.

Ms. Durham is IP and Innovation Director at the Brazilian Association of Fine Chemistry. In 2018 her team was named Best Latin American IP Department and she was named Brazil´s Best Counsel.

Robert Earle is Vice President for Patent Assertion and Enforcement at Ericsson. His group within Ericsson’s IP rights organisation is responsible for driving the company’s global patent assertion and enforcement activities. He is involved in developing Ericsson’s global patent assertion and enforcement strategy – providing detailed technical analysis of Ericsson’s industry-leading portfolio of over 45,000 patents, as well as mapping those patents against the products and services provided by potential licensees.

Mr Earle joined Ericsson in 2014 as Vice President for Assertion and Enforcement. Previously, he was a partner in Fish & Richardson’s Dallas office. He has been first chair in multiple jury trials before federal and state trial courts and he has represented top international companies in patent litigation cases. Before attending law school, Mr Earle served in the US Navy.

Mr Earle holds a JD and a master’s in electrical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.

Ms Estrada graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires with a law degree in 1994 and later completed a master’s in IP at the University of Palermo. She has taught at different universities and has written many articles. Ms Estrada is a member of the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires.

Humberto Gomes Ferraz is a Pharmacist (1990) from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, with a master’s (1993) and a PhD (1997) in pharmaceuticals and medicines from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of São Paulo (FCF/USP) and a postdoc (2003) from the University of Coimbra (2007). Dr Ferraz is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy at the FCF/USP, where he works in the pharmaceutical field, and a Visiting Researcher at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. He is also a Collaborator Professor at the University of Trujillo, Peru. Dr Ferraz has significant experience working on projects with pharmaceutical companies. He founded and is responsible for the FCF/USP’s Department of Pharmacy Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Development and Innovation programme. Dr Ferraz has published more than 70 articles.

Dr Morganti has more than 16 years’ experience in management positions in the sales and marketing, IP management and brand protection teams of multinationals in Brazil – including Delphi Automotive, Ford Motor Company and most recently Volkswagen, where he is currently a Brand Protection Consultant. He has also taught marketing-related subjects at both the undergraduate and graduate level at Mackenzie University and Santa Cecília University.

At both Ford and Volkswagen, Dr Morganti was responsible for implementing and managing the companies’ brand protection initiative. His interests include innovation, IP management and brand protection.

Newton Vieira Junior is the Nike Americas Brand Protection Director. He has a law degree from the Universidade do Vale do Itajai and certifications in civil litigation and tax law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo. Mr Vieira graduated from law school in 1998 and while attending school he was a Bailiff of the Court of Camboriu in Santa Catarina, Brazil. After graduating, he joined the IP law firm Garé & Ortiz do Amaral in Sao Paulo, where he later became Partner. While working at this law firm, he oversaw brand protection for several major companies. In 2012 he began his career at Nike as Brand Protection Manager for Brazil and quickly took over as the Latin America Brand Protection Director. For the past two years Mr Vieira has been Director of Brand Protection for both North America and Latin America.
